Reaching All Students -

Digital Media for Bilingual/ELL Students

Big Ideas:

1. Bilingual/ELL teachers now have access to more technology-based teaching and learning tools than ever before.

2. Technology can enhance learning for Bilingual/ELL students if ...

  • it develops deep UNDERSTANDING of concepts, ideas learning and tasks through CONTEXTUALIZATION and linkages to pre-existing knowledge and experiences
  • it provides AUTHENTIC, MEANINGFUL  and CHALLENGING opportunities to communicate and solve problems
  • it enables students to COLLABORATE with a learning COMMUNITY of peers and educators
  • it affirm a positive student IDENTITY through AMPLIFIED  PUBLISHING

3. Bilingual/ELL students should be both digital media consumers and digital media producers.

4. Bilingual/ELL students should publish what they produce, especially using Web 2.0 sites.

5. Most schools already have the technology they need.
