Learn how to maximize learning for ELL students using the digital media tools available on your computer and online.
Purpose & Objectives
This presentation will highlight some promising applications of digital media in effective teaching practices for Bilingual/ELL classrooms. These digital media applications have been chosen because of their potential to enhance instruction, improve language development and deepen student understanding. This session will increase awareness of the ready availability of online resources for Bilingual/ELL students and will present various ways to use the powerful technology tools that are already on most classroom computers.
Participants will view examples of digital media products that can be replicated in all classrooms. These digital media examples will include teacher and student created videos, audio recordings and digital photo books. We will share ways that educators can take advantage of technology tools like video cameras, digital cameras, and iPods to improve Bilingual/ELL instruction. Current research on the use of technology with ELL students will be summarized. The final focus of the presentation will be on the integration of emerging technologies such as blogging, podcasting and wikis with ELL/Bilingual instruction.
