Activity 2: Camera Orientation

Review the following: making a video with a digital camera and downloading pictures to computer.

Tip: Do not rotate your camera when shooting video. It can be very problematic to re-rotate the frame to the correct orientation.

Activity 3: The 'One Take' Web Video

Whole Group/Independent Activity

The 'One Take' video is a short (2 minutes or less) video that was filmed with no external camera editing. The focus is on student script-writing and storyboarding so that students can learn to quickly present a lesson review, preview or key idea without focusing on the extra film editing features.

1. View this example of a "one-take" web video:  Student Example Day3.mp4

2. Create a script/storyboard for your "one-take" web video.

3. Review the criteria for a quality one-take web video:

    • The subject occupies most of the frame and the camera is steady.
    • The subject speaks clearly, slowly, loudly to the camera (You may need to check sound settings).
    • Lighting and contrast make the subjects easy to see.
    • Use visuals and zoom in on writing.
    • Know your audience and purpose.
    • Use appropriate voice.

4. With a partner, create a "one-take" web video.  This can be a short bio that introduce yourself to your students or a preview of your coming school year. Your audience will be your students and their parents. Keep in mind that this video can serve as public speaking and identity text model for your students.

5. Download your video from the camera then upload it to your wiki using the video upload plugin.

Tips:

    • Practice, Practice, Practice! Practice your lines before getting in front of the camera.
    • Don't plug the USB cord into the keyboard, it does not have enough power.  Plug it into a port on the computer.
    • When saving your video, do not include spaces or special characters in the name.

Activity 4: Wiki Lesson 3 - Geek Your Wiki

1. Adding photos, cluster maps, Yack Pak etc.

2. Upgrading your account

Activity 5: Digital Audio Recording (if time permits)

1. Listen to the following recording by Ms. Cassedy's students.

2. Use Audio Recorder to produce a short recording that you can then upload to your wiki. Your recording can be a story for your students to read along with or a message to your students and/or parents.

1. If you come across aterm that you do not understand then add it to the eduesepedia.
